What makes the Kingfisher so special? For starters, we’re located right on the legendary Bighorn River—one of America’s premier blue-ribbon tailwater trout streams. We’ve been guiding on the Bighorn for more than 30 years, and many of our guides and longtime guests have been with us since the beginning.
The Kingfisher has earned its reputation for exceptional guides: knowledgeable, patient, and skilled at working with everyone from first-time anglers to seasoned fly fishers. Our guides have fished with plenty of notable figures over the years—and if you ask, they might share a story or two. But what truly fuels them isn’t celebrity tales. It’s watching a new angler light up when they land their first Brown or Rainbow on one of the Bighorn’s tiny flies. It’s guiding an experienced fisherman to a quiet cove on a windy day, where a hidden pod of rising trout turns into an unforgettable moment.
While world-class fishing has always been at the heart of what we do, our lodging and dining have grown right alongside it. Today, guests can choose from a variety of accommodations, including private lodge rooms, the Farmhouse, and comfortable studio apartments. Thoughtful spaces, good food, and great company all come together to create a complete and memorable stay.

How Your Day Will Unfold
At Kingfisher Lodge, we keep things straightforward: comfort, good food, and a great day of fishing. These are our priorities. We’ll do everything we can to make sure you have productive, enjoyable days on the river.
- Start your morning with a hearty breakfast.
- Guides arrive at the lodge, you get geared up and within 20 minutes you’re on the water making your first casts.
- Midday, enjoy a fresh boat-side lunch — on colder days, it could be homemade hot soup; on warmer days it may include a root beer float.
- Fish a few more hours in the afternoon, then head back to the lodge.
- Change and freshen up. Gather before dinner to relax and share the day’s fishing stories (here’s where the tall tales happen about the one that got away).
- Enjoy appetizers and dinner, then spend the evening at the outdoor fire pit or playing pool or darts in the lounge area.

Lodge Rooms
Our lodge features comfortable, cozy, and impeccably clean guest rooms located just steps from the lodge deck—perfect for enjoying appetizers, cocktails, and evening socializing. Each room includes two queen beds, a private bathroom, and a convenient mini-fridge.
Farmhouse
The original farmhouse on the property can comfortably sleep up to four guests. It features two separate bedrooms, each with a queen bed, and a fully equipped kitchen for those who prefer to prepare their own meals. The farmhouse also includes a cozy living room perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring.
Apartments
We also offer two studio-style apartments, each with its own fully equipped kitchen and two queen beds. Both studios feature a screened-in porch with beautiful view of wide-open space of the Bighorn River valley, offering a peaceful setting and a different experience from the main lodge. The apartments are located a short walk from the lodge, providing convenience while still giving guests a sense of privacy.
