BIGHORN FLY FISHING
A Legacy Built on Passion and Tradition
Fly Fishing the Bighorn
The Bighorn River holds around 2,500 trout per mile — plenty of fish and plenty of room to fish them.
The Bighorn is known as one of the best trout rivers in North America, and from Kingfisher Lodge you have easy access to more than 23 miles of its clear, fish-filled water. Whether you’ve been fly fishing for years or just getting started, the river offers the perfect mix of challenge, relaxation, and reward.
Fishing for Every Level
There’s no one way to fish the Bighorn. Some days it’s all about nymphs, other days it’s streamers or dry flies. Our guides tailor each trip to your experience and interests so you can make the most of your time on the water — no pressure, just great fishing and good company.
Beginners Welcome
Never fly fished before? No problem. Our guides are patient teachers who love helping folks learn the ropes. We’ll cover the basics, get you casting, and spend the day exploring the river together. We can’t promise a fish on your first day, but we can promise you’ll have fun learning and soaking up the experience.
Easy Access, Local Know-How
Your day starts right at the lodge. Guides meet you each morning and you’re usually on the water within 15–20 minutes. With years of experience on this river, our team knows how to read the conditions, match the hatch, and find fish — so you can just relax and enjoy the day.

Different Methods of Fly Fishing
We offer dry fly fishing for advanced anglers, especially during a hatch
Nymphing
Highly effective year-round and perfect for beginners and pros alike. With a strong insect population and consistent flows, the river produces high catch rates—even for first-time fly fishers.
Dry fly
A dream come true during active hatches. From prolific BWO and PMD hatches in spring and fall to the legendary summer Trico and Caddis hatches, experienced anglers can enjoy technical, rewarding dry fly action with rising trout sipping flies off the surface.
Streamer
Provides the opportunity to target larger, more aggressive trout, especially during shoulder seasons or when flows are higher. It’s an exciting way to cover water and connect with trophy browns and rainbows.
